My Only Path to Power

“Jenner was always a woman, even prior to her physical transition, because a transgender person’s gender is determined at birth, even if it is discovered later in life.”

“The past was alterable. The past never had been altered. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia.” – George Orwell, 1984

I’ve been thinking a lot about this quote from Nevlynn:

“If any of the men I’ve had intercourse with in the past… demanded that I see them as a woman I would refuse… I was having sex with a man… That was my lived experience.”

When I entered into a relationship with my soon-to-be-husband, I was not entering into a lesbian relationship. In fact, I gave up a lesbian identity to be with him. I lost contact with my lesbian friends, I stopped going to “the bar” (because he didn’t want to be…

GENDER IS NOT AN IDENTITY, IT IS A TOOL OF PATRIARCHY: A FEMINIST VIEW OF GENDER-IDENTITY POLITICS

AUGUST 15, 2016

HUMAN BEINGS ARE ALL JUST FINE

Men are fine, women are fine. Every body is fine, every body is perfect. If we believe this, then any sense of dissociation or negative feelings about our bodies must be distress, whether caused by trauma, abuse, societal pressure, injury, illness, sexism, racism or disableism.

BIOLOGY
Biologically humans come in two sexes i.e. we are sexually dimorphic. A small number of people are born intersex, which does not negate the reality of two sexes, but rather confirms it. You can’t be a combination of two things if the two things don’t exist. Traditionally intersex people have had their bodies surgically altered at birth to conform to one or another sex, but there is now a movement of intersex people who challenge the validity…

Medicare denies national coverage for gender reassignment surgery: No evidence of therapeutic outcome

GenderTrender

On June 2, 2016 the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) denied national coverage for gender reassignment surgery after the agency conducted a  year long review which determined that there is no medical evidence of a therapeutic outcome for patients who have undergone these procedures.

Excerpts from their report:

On December 3, 2015, CMS accepted a formal complete request from a beneficiary to initiate a national coverage analysis (NCA) for gender reassignment surgery.

CMS opened this National Coverage Analysis (NCA) to thoroughly review the evidence to determine whether or not gender reassignment surgery may be covered nationally under the Medicare program.

————————————————————————————————–

In general, when making national coverage determinations, CMS evaluates relevant clinical evidence to determine whether or not the evidence is of sufficient quality to support a finding that an item or service is reasonable and necessary for the diagnosis or treatment of illness or injury or to improve…

Lekkers and losers — language: a feminist guide

“these competing accounts of gendered linguistic behaviour […] also illustrate that sex-difference science and folk-wisdom aren’t always as far apart as we might think.”

Indeed. More great explorations from Deb Cameron of how the ‘gendering’ of language facilitates predation and oppression by males of females, rather than being simply a matter of different styling.

It will not be news to readers of this blog that I take a keen interest in popular literature on the subject of gender and communication. In my house there’s a whole shelf of old books I can’t keep in my office because they’re too embarrassing: they include Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus and several examples of vintage neurobollocks. Fortunately, the internet now allows me to sample this kind of material more discreetly (and usually for free). Really, I’ve no excuse not to stay current.

Yet until two days ago I’d never heard of Dan Bacon, a self-described ‘dating and relationship expert’ and the proprietor of a website called The ModernMan (‘if you have a problem with women, I have the perfect solution for you’).Dan has recently become infamous for writing a piece entitled ‘How to talk to a woman who is wearing headphones’. Or, put another way, ‘how to make a woman take her headphones off and pay attention while you try to pick her up’.

Fifty years on: The Charing Cross Gender Identity Clinic and the funding of a category without parallel

First, Do No Harm: Youth Gender Professionals

by Susan Matthews, UK Academic

1966

The Charing Cross Gender Identity Clinic is the ‘oldest and largest adult clinic’ in the UK. It was founded in 1966, the year that the first sexual reassignment surgery was carried out at Johns Hopkins Gender Identity Clinic, the world’s first GIC  founded the previous year by psychiatrist and sexologist John Money (1921-2006). The founding clinician at Charing Cross, Richard Green (1936 -), came with an impressive academic pedigree, having worked with Money, collaborating on research on boys who demonstrated cross-gender behaviour. Money liked to claim (with some justification) that he had invented the modern sense of the word ‘gender’ – andit was Money who named the clinic (specialising in the treatment of intersex and transsexual patients) a ‘Gender Identity Clinic’.[1] (Up until the second half of the twentieth century, the word ‘gender’ referred to grammatical gender, a feature of language not human…

Passing Women are Quite Common

crashchaoscats

Women transition for a lot of reasons but one of the main ones is being treated like all women are treated, disrespectfully, violently, subject to many limitations, as well as getting punished specifically for being a woman out of line with the male-created ideal.

Women aren’t allowed to just exist as we please. We are encouraged and trained, starting when we are very young, to please others. If someone sexually abused us as children then we likely absorbed the message that our very bodies exist to be used for others’ pleasure.  We are taught to please men especially since they have more power, including the power to dominate whomever happens to fall beneath them in the social hierarchy. Men are more likely to sexually abuse us, teach us our bodies are there to fulfill their desires. Men, white men most of all, still hold most positions of power in industry…

Transwoman calls police over misgendering

Purple Sage

From the Daily Mail:

“Don’t call me ‘he’! Transgender Tory councillor calls in police because Labour opponent keeps calling her ‘he’ in meetings

A Tory councillor who transitioned from male to female a decade ago has complained to police after being addressed as ‘he’ by her Labour opponent.

Transgender Bolton councillor Zoe Kirk-Robinson has accused the town’s former mayor of ‘misgendering’ her after he repeatedly called her ‘he’ and ‘him’ instead of ‘she’ and ‘her’ at a meeting.

Officers are understood to be taking the allegation seriously and investigating the incident as a potential hate crime.”

So calling a man ‘he’ is a potential hate crime! It’s so nice of the police to take men so seriously when they report a hate crime. Women around the world endure human rights abuses daily in the form of verbal abuse, sexual harassment, sexual assault, and rape, and the vast majority of…

Hippocrates rolls in his grave: In search of the dysphoric trans tweens of yore

4thWaveNow

As pediatric-transition skeptics, we 4thWaveNow parents are routinely drenched with trans activist Kool-Aid. Distilled down to its most concentrated form, this toxic brew consists of the following ingredients:

  • Truly transgender children of all ages must be “affirmed” in their (innate) gender identities, and then helped along the road to eventual medical transition: hormones and surgeries, leading to irreversible physiological changes, including likely sterility.
  • Medical transition must be instigated as early in life as possible, so that the young person will “pass” better as the opposite sex.
  • The only alternative to strict adherence to this “affirmative” approach to parenting and psychological/medical care is: risk the suicide of our children. Parental support for gender “nonconformity” (aka gender defiance) without also endorsing the idea that a child can actually change their sex is inadequate–and tantamount to child abuse.

Because activists insist that there are “truly transgender” children whose gender identity is hard-wired at…
